SOUTHEND United manager Chris Powell was pleased to pick up a point at Bury – despite believing his side had the better of the 0-0 draw.

The stalemate made it 10 points from a possible 12 since Powell took charge of the Shrimpers.

But he felt Blues could have made it four wins in succession with better finishing in front of goal.

“On reflection I think we just shaded it with regards to the quality of chances created, we just couldn’t take them,” said Powell.

“Dru Yearwood had a couple and I thought there was a penalty shout on Freddie (Ladapo) too.

“But we’re away from home on a tricky pitch and it’s a long way to come so I’ve got to be pleased with the attitude and application of the players along with the clean sheet.

“I thought the defenders were outstanding.

Bury defended heroically and they tested us too but my players stood up to it.

“It’s another point and it’s been a good start.”
