AN 11-year-old boy cried for help after being hit by a dirt bike on the walkway of an estate.

The boy was hit by a motorcycle in Hereford Walk, Basildon at around 8.30pm.

The woman who called for an ambulance to help the boy said she will never forget the noise when the crash happened.

She said: “My husband has just gone to bed, between 8.15 and 8.30pm, I just heard the noise.

“I will never forget it, it was just a huge crash.

“There was no screaming, but I thought it did not sound right, I ran out into the garden and I could hear someone whimpering and whining.

“I came round the side of my house and I saw the boy laying on the floor, he was saying; ‘help me, please help me’.”

Echo:

As the boy was laid on the grass beside the walkway, the biker and his friend fled the scene.

A rapid response vehicle, ambulance and four police cars attended the scene after reports of the incident.

The sustained severe injuries to his face, leg and hands.

The woman said: “By the time I came outside, I could see someone picking up their bike, and someone else, they had run off.

“My main concern though was the little boy on the ground.

“His friend was with him, he was in a terrible state.

“The boy’s face was bleeding, he was in pain, shock, he had an injury to his leg and his hand too.

“He took the full impact of the bike. The emergency services were here within about 15 minutes, the problem with this estate is no one knows where it could be within Hereford Walk. All I could do was give them my exact address to describe where it happened.”

Following the incident, the East of England Ambulance Service took the boy to hospital to be treated for his injuries.

A statement said: “We were called on 12th February at 8.26pm to reports of a road traffic collision on Hereford Walk, in Basildon.

“An ambulance crew and a rapid response vehicle were sent to help.

“At the scene they assessed a boy, who had been in collision with a motorcycle, for leg and facial injuries.

“The patient was taken to Basildon and Thurrock Hospital for further care.”

Thankfully, the 11-year-old has been discharged from hospital and the woman who dialled 999 said he visited her home to thank her for her help.
