I am concerned over the proposed additional commuter car park on a green field site on Shoebury's East Beach.

This is a natural unspoilt space enjoyed by visitors and residents and is an inappropriate site for this purpose.

There are alternative and better solutions that will preserve the integrity of the green space and encourage commuters to use off-street parking facilities.

Why is there a need for more parking spaces? There is already an underused commuter car park at Shoebury rail station. Why is it under used? If the reason why commuters choose to park on the street is because it is free, then what assurances do the councillors have that additional car parking would be used by commuters if charges were made.

If more space is required, there is unused land in Terminal Close.

It is better to work in partnership with the car park and railway operator to provide commuters parking as part of the price of season tickets thereby saving local residents the capital cost and maintenance of the new car park.

The commuters will be off the road and closer to the trains and East Beach will remain undeveloped and retain its natural appeal.

Hands off East Beach.

...You do not have to live along the High Street to realise what a catastrophe Roger Hadley's idea would be.

East Beach is a very popular spot for tourists who enjoy the freedom of the grassy area as much as the sand and sea.

They bring income into Shoebury, something every community needs. If commuters take up all available field area those tourists will go elsewhere

...As a High Street shopkeeper only yards from the entrance to East Beach, I was shocked by the suggestion to build a car park there.

Having been a shopkeeper himself, Roger Hadley must realise how dependant shopkeepers are on trade from visitors to the beach.

Any scheme involving blocking off the entrance to the beach from the High Street would be bad for business.
