A MOTORHOME crashed into several cars in a tight Westcliff side street... before the driver fled the scene.

The carnage ensued between 2am and 3am on Tuesday, as the motorhome driver smashed his or her way down Electric Avenue.

The motorist managed to crash into five different parked vehicles in total.

Police were called out to the incident after panicked residents dialled 999, reporting the driver’s rampage through the street.

Police officers arrived in the road to find quite a trail of destruction.

PC Dean Young, from the Southend local policing team, said that enquiries were currently ongoing to identify the driver.

PC Young said: “Fortunately, there were no injuries as a result of the collisions. The subject vehicle of the incidents was a motorhome.

“We have tallied up the driver collided with five parked vehicles in the middle of Electric Avenue.

“The incident happened in the early hours of the morning.

“Enquiries are ongoing from the Southend local policing team in order to identify the driver.

“There have been no people taken into custody in connection with the incident as of yet.”

PC Young said that police are still gathering witness accounts of the incident - and were therefore are unable as of yet to release any further information regarding it.

Electric Avenue is a very narrow residential street with cars parked on either side of the road.

All the vehicles the driver of the motorhome hit were confirmed by PC Young as being cars.

So far one of the vehicles has been confirmed as a write-off.

The other four vehicles involved were fairly badly damaged, however, they are deemed possible to repair.

Images from the incident show a Vauxhall Corsa that had been hit during the motorhome’s rally through the road.

Following the incident, PC Young tweeted: “This parked vehicle suffered the worst of the collision. It is beyond repair.”

The vehicle’s back window had been completely smashed.

The back right wheel arch had come off and the rest of the rear right side had been crushed during the incident.

The car’s rear lights were also destroyed.

A trail of parts and debris were left in the street.

No description has been released of the driver - or the vehicle following the incident.

The Echo contacted Essex Police for further information regarding an appeal or description to help find the driver.

However, they were unable to reply with a comment before the paper went to print.
