A successful quiz night, organised by the Wick Community Association in Wickford, raised just over £500 for the Mayor of Basildon’s charities.

Mayor David Harrison has picked charities to support through his time in office which are Be Child Cancer Aware which develops a signs and symptoms of child cancer awareness card and the Polly Parrot Appeal for the children’s Ward’s at Basildon Hospital which helps raise money for units including the neonatal unit and children’s oncology unit.

The quiz night was a huge success and attracted more than 100 people.

Lynne Brooker from the WCA presented David Harrison with a cheque for £450 - with the £60 winners prize also being donated.

Lynne said: “We are really pleased that we could do this for David’s charities, as he is also our Ward Councillor.”

Mr Harrison told the Echo: “It was a fantastic evening, and my thanks to Lynne and the Wick Community Association for their help by hosting a successful event.

“It is very much appreciated.”
