Eight police cars have closed off The Mount, Pitsea, according to witnesses.

Essex Police have been contacted for further comment.

Trains are still running through the train station.

There are witness reports that Cromwell Manor has been closed off.

The Echo attempted to ring the wedding venue but there was no response.

Update: 1.30pm

There are reports that travellers have set up on Wat Tyler Country Park.

About six caravans have been spotted on the site.

It is not known if this is linked to the above incident at the current time.

Update 1.45pm

Basildon Council and British Transport Police, from nearby Pitsea Train Station, have confirmed the incident was due to travellers attempting to get onto Wat Tyler Country Park.

A spokesman from the council said that caravans were unable to gain access and were moved on by the police within an hour.

The caravans are thought to have blocked the road while trying to get on to the site, before they were served notices by poice and left.

Essex Police said they were called after about 20 vehicles arrived and people were being "abusive and causing a disturbance".

A police spokesman said: "Police received reports of an unauthorised traveller encampment in Pitsea Hall Lane, Pitsea, at around 12.30pm today (Thursday, March 15).

"Officers initially received reports that a number of people with the encampment, which involved around 20 vehicles, were getting aggressive and causing a disturbance. 

"We attended the scene and quickly served a section 61 notices before the vehicles left the encampment. "
