JAZZ and George Duke fans got very excited towards the end of February, when Reach For It - a top drawer five-piece band - started winging their way to Southend.

Unfortunately the Beast from the East put an end to that plan and stopped the musicians in their tracks.

But next week, on Wednesday April 11, the same band with the same line-up, playing the same tribute to the late great George Duke, will be back!

They will appear at the Jazz Mix club night held in the Maritime Room of the Cliffs Pavilion.

Reach For It features the electronic wizardry of Carl Hudson (Culture Club, Sister Sledge, Average White Band) on keyboards, Tim Cansfield on guitar (Bee Gees, Seal, Stevie Winwood), Phil Mulford on bass (Lionel Richie, Beverley Knight, Lewis Taylor), Karl Vanden Bossche on percussion (Basement Jaxx, Roy Ayers, Matt Bianco) and Geoff Dunn on drums (Van Morrison, Incognito, Donna Summer).

Together this skilled ensemble celebrate the master musician Duke, performing his awesome catalogue of work from the Zappa years, his multi-album solo career, his heavyweight collaborations (Billy Cobham, Stanley Clarke) and Montreux triumphs,.

On the night you can expect "impeccable ensemble musicianship combined with friendly funk and some very groovy jazz – plus solos to take the breath away!" said promoter Mick Crook.

Doors open 8pm, music is from 8.30pm to 11pm.

Admission is £16 available from southendtheatres.org.uk.
