A TERRIFIED mum has spoken of the moment she grabbed her young children from the wreckage of a terror crash, fearing they might be seriously hurt.

Clare Foster, 27, from Wickford, was driving along Miles Grays Road, Basildon on Monday when her silver Peugeot car was in a collision with a Vauxhall white van.

Clare’s mum, Michele Foster, who was the passenger in the car, was airlifted to the Royal London Hospital with a broken breast bone.

Clare rushed to grab her children, aged just 18 months and eight weeks old, from the back of the car. Fortunately, they were unharmed.

She said: “I removed my children from the car as I was worried in case another car hit us before the fire engine turned up.

“I felt relieved that there was no major casualties. But I felt so heartbroken and upset because my kids where in the car and I would do anything to keep them safe. I felt guilty that my mum was hurt, as I was the driver when the crash happened.”

Clare said: “I was in so much shock after the crash, all I kept thinking about was making sure my kids were okay and calming down my mum.”

Fire crews had to cut Michele from the car as she became trapped from the force of the impact.

Clare also thanked members of the public who ran to her aid.

She said: “The kids are physically fine, my older son struggled to sleep one night after the crash and was a bit distressed but he is fine. Mum is doing well she is still in hospital getting lots of medication to help with the pain, and should be home very soon.”

Clare suffered whiplash, a bruised and sore spine and sore wrist.
