Gavin Callaghan annouces via Twitter that he's "standing down as Leader of @BasildonLabour following last night's elections".
Labour lost control of Basildon Council to the Tories.
He continued: "Thank you to everyone for their support. We've achieved so much over the last 3 years and I'm proud of the work we have done"
