STAFF at an accountancy firm wore football kits to raise cash for a cancer charity.

Workers from Platt Rushton LLP, Leigh wore their football shirts for Football Shirt Friday in order to raise money for The Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK.

The firm raised a total of £130.

As well as wearing their shirts, some of the staff have also taken part in a cracker eating competition.

Duncan Sheekey, 58, a partner in the firm said the event went really well.

He said: “It was my idea to hold the fundraising event.

“I am a keen football fan and know all about the great cause so thought why not raise money for the fund.

“Everyone really enjoyed it and all got into the spirit of the event with their football kits.”

Sir Bobby Moore was just 51-years-old when he died having been a West Ham and England legend and former Southend manager.

The Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK was set up by Stephanie Moore MBE, Bobby’s widow, in his memory to fund pioneering, life-saving bowel cancer research.

Since the fund was set up in mortality rates have fallen by more than 30 per cent and £23.5 million has been raised.
