A PRIMARY school celebrated the opening of its brand new sensory garden after winning a grant to fund its creation.

Stambridge Primary School, in Stambridge Road, Rochford, opened up the new garden after it received funding from Tesco’s Bag of Help project, to trim back a trail and make a new outdoor area for the pupils.

The garden was designed as an opportunity for pupils to enjoy some quiet time while in an outdoor area.

The children were invited by the teachers to submit their own ideas for the garden.

Once a final design was created, their families took part in a ground force day to clear the area and get it ready to create the garden.

Once work was complete, George Ioannou, chairman of Stambridge Parish Council was the guest of honour for the unveiling of the garden on May 21 with the pupils and teachers.

Speaking about the new garden, Becky Thomas, the lead teacher of this project said: “It has been lovely to see the children enjoying and helping each other compete in the trim trail and I’m thrilled with how excited they are to use the sensory garden.

“This will be a great opportunity to use their senses and their imagination.

“I’d also like to thank the local community for their help and to Tesco for the funding.”
