A man in his 60s was left helpless in his car after a driver crashed into his car and fled the scene.

The man, driving a white Vauxhall Astra was almost rammed off the road after the driver of a silver Ford Fiesta crashed into him in Somnes Avenue at around 6am today.

Reports say that the incident happened after the driver of the Fiesta him the kerb in the road and crashed into the Astra "almost head on".

After the incident, the Fiesta driver got out of the vehicle and ran from the scene.

A police investigation has been launched to find the driver.

A spokesman for Essex Police, said: "We were called to reports of a collision involving a white Vauxhall Astra and a silver Ford Fiesta on Somnes Avenue, Canvey Island shortly before 6am this morning, Saturday, May 26.

The driver of the Fiesta failed to stop following the collision and left the car and went in the direction of The Dyke.

The Astra driver, a man in his 60s, was treated for minor injuries.

Enquiries are ongoing to locate the driver of the Fiesta."

Essex Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed or has dashcam footage of the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact us on 101 quoting incident 269 of May 26.
