THE father of an 11-year-old boy, who tragically died from a brain tumour, has completed a charity cycle ride from Paris to Canvey, raising an amazing £50,000.

Chris Green, 50, who lives on Canvey, was one of 28 novice cyclists who took on the challenge. The dedicated team completed the 220-mile challenge in four days in aid of The Danny Green Fund.

And an unprecedented £50,000 was pledged.

The team was welcomed home with a special party at Canvey Football Club, Park Lane, yesterday.

Danny was diagnosed with a brain tumour aged just ten-years-old and fought for eight months before he passed away in 2012.

Since then his family and friends have been raising money for other children with Posterior Fossa Syndrome, which can severely impact on a child’s ability to move or communicate.

Chris said the team did such a fantastic job.

He recalled: “The team have worked so well.

“We left last Thursday and started our ride the next day from the Arc de Triomphe.

“We then rode on to Dieppe on the northern coast of France.

“We then caught the ferry for a four-hour crossing to New Haven, in East Sussex, before travelling to Kent and then across the North and South Downs before going on to our final destination of Canvey Football Club.”

Mr Green said that there were lots of hills in France and the weather was very hot, so the ride was very tough.

None of the team had done this sort of thing before, as they are all novice cyclists.

The cycling team had two support helpers, who Chris said, were just amazing and were on hand to offer help with a puncture, water and energy packs when needed.

He said: “The welcome that we received was just unbelievable.

“There must have been about 500 people at the football club and they all clapped and cheered as we arrived.

“We are all very tired, emotional and very proud of our achievement.”
