Police and council officers have obtained a specialised court order hoped to drastically reduce antisocial behaviour at a home on Canvey.

Following ongoing problems of nuisance behaviour, and criminal activity, at the council-owned address in Rosberg Road, Castle Point Council served a closure order last week.

This will prevent access to the property for anyone, other than the tenant.

David Marchant, the council’s chief executive, said: “The council will not tolerate nuisance and disorder in our properties, we obtained a closure order to prevent further serious anti-social behaviour and criminality in this premises.

“This is an excellent example of partnership working and we will continue to work with Essex Police and other agencies to combat anti-social behaviour and criminal behaviour.”

The council was assisted by the Castle Point and Rochford community policing team who supplied evidence to support the application and served the order on the property, occupied by James Rickard, 21o.

Police have said they will continue to make regular visits.

However, the council and police have not made it clear what the ongoing problems specifically are.

An Essex Police spokesman warned: “Anyone caught breaching it could face jail.

“The successful application was made at Southend Magistrates Court on June 7.

“It allows quick closure of premises which are being used to commit serious nuisance or disorder. The order will now remain in place for three months.

“Breaching it is a criminal offence.”

Dave Blackwell, Canvey Independent councillor for Canvey Central, said this is a very serious incident. He said: “The police and council wouldn’t do this unless there were serious concerns that something has been going on there.

“The council will be doing all it can to stop what is going on at the address but this is the last straw.

“Whatever has been going on at the property could have been going on for some time and the tenant may have had various warnings. I support the police in their work and am pleased to see they are taking this so seriously.”

Anyone with information about anti-social behaviour or nuisance surrounding a specific property is urged to contact police on 101.
