Pupils from a Basildon primary school stepped back in time and learned about cavemen during the Stone Age.

Caveman and woman, Will Lord and Sarah Day, pitched up at Briscoe Primary School, Felmores End on Sunday to teach the pupils about how life was in their time.

The year three and four pupils, who are learning about the Stone Age as part of their curriculum were taught to build a fire, gut a fish and skin a deer with their cave dwelling ancestors who were visiting for the third year running.

Co-headteacher Nicola Coggin spoke of her pride at how well the pupils took to the sessions.

She said: “This is what we want to give our students.

“It has given the children the opportunity to experience lots of things that would have been done in the Stone Age.

“They learned to make things and how life was then.

“It is such a valuable experience that they would not receive without this being done.”

The cavemen are spending a week at the school where they will hold sessions with all year groups and even join the teachers for a summer staff barbecue.

Mrs Coggin added: “It is nice for both the staff and students as it is great for team building.

“The pair of actors also do not break character and it is absolutely amazing.”
