A RAIL provider has announced that it will be offering weekend train travel...instead of rail replacement.
Greater Anglia has announced that its Southend Victoria line will, from Saturday, offer weekend travel to London until engineering works recommence after the August bank holiday.
The announcement has shocked commuters.
Joe Dale, 23, of Perry Street, Billericay, who commutes to London every day for work, was very frustrated by the announcement from the provider.
He said: “Why does Greater Anglia want a medal for announcing that we can use their trains on the weekend for once?
“The fact is that we all pay for those trains anyway in our annual tickets. The provider cannot do this and make it sound as if it is doing us a favour.”
The line running is intended to encourage both county residents into the city and Londoners into Essex.
Jamie Burles, Greater Anglia managing director said: “We want to make sure customers know when there isn’t engineering works on our lines so they can take advantage of faster travel into London by train.”
