THE World Cub is in full swing so it’s only fitting that today we are bringing you some football-themed memories.

With the help of historians and volunteers at Rayleigh Town Museum, we’ve trawled our archives to bring you these vintage Blues photos.

The images are all of Southend United’s people, places and faces over the decades.

Some of the photos show Vic Jobson, the ex Blues chairman who enjoyed a tempestuous 15-year reign in the Roots Hall hotseat.

Although the property developer, who died in 1999, made as many friends as he did enemies during his time at the club, he is still remembered by many as the man who saved the Shrimpers from the brink of extinction in the mid-80s.

Also making an appearance in the photo gallery is ex Southend United manager and professional footballer Barry Fry, who enjoyed a relatively short stint with the Seasiders, from April 1993-December 1993.

What’s more, or should we say what’s Moore, a 1966 World Cup champion Bobby also crops up in the gallery. He is pictured mentoring young Blues players while he was manager of the club from 1984-1988.

And forget Only You, it’s a case of Only Blue for pop star and local girl Alison Moyet who is snapped in the stands at a Blues match in 1993.

The singer is famously a huge supporter of the club to the point she sent a praising hand-written letter to popular former Shrimpers player Stan Collymore when he left the Blues in the early nineties.

Other photos date back to the seventies, while ambitious plans for a colossal Blues stadium, which were touted in the late eighties - but never came to fruition- can also be seen.

If you’ve enjoyed looking at our photo gallery you can see plenty more by paying a visit to the Rayleigh Town Museum. The museum, in High Street, Rayleigh, which is free to enter, is currently displaying dozens of Blues themed photos from the Echo archives.
