World famous illusionist Derren Brown seems to have fallen for the delights of sunny Southend.

He's currently doing a series of shows at the Cliffs Pavilion and is keen to introduce the town to the rest of the world by posting a link to a promotional film which was shot there in 1959.

He Tweeted: "Last couple of nights of the tour here in Southend-on-Sea, or ‘Sunshine-on-Sea’. For overseas followers who aren’t familiar, here’s National Treasure Johnny Morris introducing it."

The film is around 22 minutes long and is an eye-opener to the changing face of Southend, though of course it was professionally produced to make the town look like an idyllic seaside destination...a sort of illusion in itself, perhaps?

The film was originally posted on YouTube by Al Watkins.
