SCHOOLS throughout Southend took part in a "mini Wimbledon" with around 200 students taking part.

The hundreds of primary school children from Darlinghurst Academy, Saint Pierre School and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary School took part in the event which was held by Westcliff High School for Girls and Boys in Kenilworth Gardens.

Tom Morrish, director of sports at Westcliff School for Boys, said: "It was great to see so many pupils from our local primary schools enjoying sport at WHSB.

"With the fantastic work of one of our sports coaches, Martin Atkinson, local pupils got to experience how vibrant and energetic sport is at WHSB.

"As a School of Tennis, it was great to see the pupils learning, enjoying themselves and being active through tennis".

Ruth Wilkin, head of PE at Westcliff School for Girls, added: "It went really smoothly and everyone had a great time. All of our Ambassadors did a great job".
