Police have launched a murder investigation after a man was stabbed in Pitsea last night.

Officers and ambulance crews attended the scene in Little Garth, near Pitsea Road, after receiving reports of an injured person shortly before 8.45pm.

Upon arrival, they found a man in his twenties who had been stabbed.

An air ambulance landed close by on the green space behind the Buckerills flats, which overlook the scene of the stabbing.

One of the flat's occupants, who wished to remain anonymous, called the ambulance after seeing a young man lying on the floor from a window, initially believing him to have been struck by a car.

She said: "We had only just arrived home and I was opening the windows when I saw the boy laying alone in the street.

"I immediatley called the ambulance, and they were here within minutes. There were around four different crews trying to help him, and a similar number police cars turned up too.

"It's usually very quiet around here, children play on the green and everyone is polite. To see something like this is absolutley shocking."

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the man sadly died shortly after being transported to Basildon Hospital.

Police have advised that the investigation remains in its early stages, however they believe that it was a targeted and isolated incident with no threat to the wider public.
