STAFF at a south Essex hospital took on a charity football match.

Southend Hospital staff took to the pitch in their annual charity football match against Sky Athletic FC.

The game raises money for the hospital’s Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) and this year is the third time the match has taken place.

It’s organised by Marc Oxford, a Renographer on the Renal Unit, who wanted to give something back after his own daughter spent time on the unit.

Marc, from Rayleigh, said: “My daughter, Lois, was born four weeks early and was taken into SCBU as she wasn’t feeding properly. Lois was on there for two weeks and the staff on that unit were amazing. Now aged eight, she is full of life! We can’t thank the staff enough, which is why I started this annual match.”

This year’s charity match, which also featured a number of stalls, DJ and even a half-time singer, raised £1,050.

Over the last three years Marc has raised nearly £3,000 for SCBU and the Renal Unit.
