Police are appealing for information following reports of cars taking part in alleged street races on Canvey Island.

Officers were called to reports of a number of people and cars in Roscommon Way.

Sergeant Simon Willshire, from the Chigwell Roads Policing Unit, said: “Street racing is dangerous and puts at risk the safety of those taking part and those watching.

“We will support car enthusiasts to socialise but in appropriate places and with respect to the local community.

“What we won’t tolerate is those who cross the line, driving in a way which is either anti-social or reckless. Anyone doing this will be dealt with robustly.

“Our enquiries to identify those taking part on Friday night are progressing but I want to speak to anyone with any information about the event.

“I particularly want to speak to anyone who saw or heard anything, has CCTV or was driving in the area and has dash cam footage.”

If you have any information about the suspected races which were taking place just after 10pm on Friday July 13, please call police on 101 quoting incident 1469 of 13/07 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
