With no sign of rain, water companies across the UK are considering bringing in hosepipe bans to conserve the vital resource.
Currently, there is only a hosepipe ban in Northern Ireland, but those in the north west of England may soon also face a ban due to the continuing drought.
Essex and Suffolk Water has confirmed there is currently no ban in Essex, but has raised concerns about the lack of rain and has asked everyone to use water wisely.
A spokesman said: "We are continuing to do all we can to maintain water supplies for our customers as this prolonged spell of warm and dry weather continues. Reservoir and groundwater levels are being monitored constantly.
"We are still seeing demand consistently at 20% above expected levels for this time of year, and have put additional resources in place to manage this. Despite these increases in demand we are not seeking to implement a hosepipe ban for our supply area.
"However, as it has now been more than 45 days since the last measurable rainfall in our region, we do need customers to work with us by using water wisely, and doing as much as they can to save water around the home and garden.
"We’d like to thank all our customers for doing their bit to save water at this time.”
Top water saving tips:
Take short showers, not baths
Turn the tap off when brushing your teeth
Avoid using pressure washers and sprinklers
Use a bowl in the sink when washing fruit, vegetables of dishes. You can then use the waste water to water your plants.
Wait until you have a full load before using your washing machine or your dishwasher.
