FOUR men are in custody after a machete was used in a fight in Southend this morning. 

Police were called by colleagues from the East of England Ambulance Service at around 12.10am with reports that a man in his 20s had been attacked.

It is believed there was a disturbance between a group of people in Victoria Road and the victim was hit with a machete.

This left a deep wound in his arm, and he is undergoing surgery.

The injury is not believed to be life threatening.  

A silver VW Golf seen near the location of the incident has been seized by officers. 

DI Chris Arnold said: “This incident is likely to have drawn some attention from residents and we would like to highlight that no wider or further risk is posed to the public.

“This is believed to be a targeted attack, although the motive remains unclear.

“Please contact my team of detectives if you have information which could help us progress our enquiries.” 

The men, who are aged 22, 28, 29, 37, have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.
