A GOLFING novice duo were triumphant in Boyce Hill Golf Club’s Ladies Summer Meeting.

Trudi Hart and Carol Bennett finished top of the leaderboard after carding an impressive 65 points.

The win was even more significant as Hart and Bennett have only recently signed up to the ladies section at Boyce Hill.

Hart joined Boyce Hill just three months ago having never belonged to another golf club before.

Bennett had been with the Boyce Hill ladies teaching academy for two years before putting herself in contention in the ladies section four months ago.

Like Hart, Bennett had never been a golf club member before.

But the inexperience did not matter in the latest contest, as a number of fine shots allowed the pair to come away victorious.

The 27 hole greensome competition, which saw pairs participate in sweltering conditions, saw some impressive scores registered.

Although Hart and Bennett’s fine performance resulted in them finishing five points clear of their nearest challengers, Ann Melvin and Pat Gregory also impressed.

Melvin and Gregory were able to claim the runners-up slot after amassing 60 points.

Countback was needed to determine who would bag the final place in the top three.

Lady captain Lou Daniels and Hilary Willett, along with Sue Hilton and Caroline Wagstaff, returned with 59 points.

After countback had been taken into consideration, Daniels and Willett were handed third place.

As a result, Hilton and Wagstaff were made to settle for fourth spot despite a fine performance.

Countback was also needed to decide which duo would come in fifth place.

The pairings of Sue Clark and Maria Baraham and Jenny Darwin and Sue Kaye recorded a total of 56 points.

But Clark and Baraham were rewarded for their efforts by finishing in the top five after countback had been carried out, while Darwin and Kaye were to bag sixth place.

The nearest the pin prize was won by Jenny Darwin, whose effort with a seven iron ended up just three feet from 120 yards.
