A man armed with a knife has threatened staff late at night in a supermarket in Westcliff.

The man entered the Premier store in London Road at around 11pm last night, Thursday August 9.

He threatened a staff member with a knife and demanded that they supply him with cash.

The victim behind the counter refused to give any money to the man, who ran out of the shop without any money.

The empty handed suspect ran away in the direction of the town centre.

Essex Police released a description of the suspect they wish to speak to in connection with the incident.

He was described as being 5ft 5ins, black and he was wearing a green Puffa jacket with a fur hood and glasses attached.

The suspect was also holding a black Nike backpack at the time of the incident.
