A COMMUNITY group visited a hospice to see how a £8,000 donation was spent.

Members of Billericay Round Table made a special visit to St. Luke’s Hospice, Basildon to see the impact that their generous donation of £8,000 has made to hospice care.

The donation was made possible through funds raised by Billericay Round Table at the club's annual firework display in Lake Meadows, Billericay.

It has been used to purchase a low rise bed, which has special features aimed at supporting the particular needs of patients with Dementia.

The donation has also enabled two of the hospice’s community clinical nurse specialists to take external training so that they can prescribe medication.

Simon Poole, chairman of Billericay Round Table said: "Hospice care touches the lives of a lot of people in our community, the range of services it provides is mind-blowing – I had no idea they did so much. The members of Billericay Round Table are delighted to be able to support St. Luke’s and our wider community in this way’’

Rachael Davis in-patient unit sister at St. Luke’s said: "We are very grateful and want to thank Billericay Round Table for their support as this new bed will enable patients to be cared for in a way that meets their individual needs and help maintain their dignity and independence as much as possible’’
