SAM Blackman says confidence is playing an important role in Concord Rangers’ flying start to the season.

The Beach Boys have taken seven points from nine under new manager Sammy Moore in the National League South so far.

That record will be put to the test by the also unbeaten Dartford at the Aspect Arena tonight - with Adam Flanagan making the return to Essex following his departure as boss at the end of last term.

Blackman, 23, was one of a host of players to join Concord in the summer and he says no-one is getting carried away.

“We set targets for the first seven games and we have hit every one so far,” said the central midfielder, who lives in Dartford. “We have seven points from nine and are playing good football.

“When you are getting points against tough teams it breeds confidence and it makes you believe more results will follow. That said, we need to stay realistic and football can turn quickly.”

“Dartford will be up there come the end of the season and we want to be as well. These are the games you want to take results from.”

Just goal difference separates the two ahead of kick-off, but Blackman remains focused on Concord, having impressed in his early weeks at the club.

And he said he wants to continue doing so.

“We have clicked early on but I have played with Sammy, D’Sean Theobalds, Frazer Shaw, Jack Midson and Lee Minshull before, so it’s not all new. You need to find the right balance.

“I never took for granted I would be playing but Sammy made it clear what he wanted my role to be. I have started well but need to maintain that level now.”

The game will also be Danny Scopes’ first at home following his appointment to the coaching staff.

And he believes any points would be a bonus.

“We want to compete with these teams and any points would be a bonus,” said Scopes. “Adam, Ben (Greenhalgh) and Billy (Roast) will be coming back and that adds spice, but we have always had good games with Dartford and I hope for another.”
