BILLERICAY Town moved to the top of the National League South following a comfortable 3-0 win at Welling United.

But Town came under early pressure against the hosts and were lucky to still be level with 10 minutes on the clock.

Goalkeeper Louis Wells was forced into an early save before Jack Jebb struck the post with a powerful free-kick.

But Town took the lead with their first opportunity of note. A foul in the penalty area saw the spot-kick awarded and Adam Coombes made no mistake to net his first goal for the club.

That saw a momentum change and Town saw out the half before stretching their lead five minutes into the second period.

Sam Deering’s cross found the head of captain Simon Walton and he powered his header into the net.

And the match was wrapped up before the hour mark. Jake Robinson slid home his sixth goal of the season to send the away fans into raptures.

Concord Rangers sit second following a hard-fought 2-0 win against Dartford.

The Beach Boys didn’t need long to open their account for the evening and it came as little surprise who got the goal.

Alex Wall added to his tally of three goals in three games with a blistering strike from an angle with just two minutes on the clock against his former club.

The remainder of the half was a close affair, although some unusually nervous defending at the back from Concord almost saw Dartford break through on several occasions.

Substitute D’Sean Theobalds added a second with 15 minutes remaining to wrap up the points.

But it was more misery for East Thurrock who fell to a 1-0 home loss against Eastbourne Borough.

Lloyd Dawes struck into the side netting for the Sports early on before Charlie Walker hammered a fine strike off the frame of the goal.

Borough were well on top and the pressure was to tell when Dawes tapped home from close range 10 minutes before the interval.

After the break Ryan Scott headed wide for East Thurrock who remain pointless.
