A CHARITY football match is being held in memory of parents, Cathryn Sansum and Kenny Scott, who lost their lives due to serious illnesses.

Legends of Orsett Green and Grays Cosmos will play in a game at the Lakeside Sports Centre in Arterial Road, Chafford Hundred, on Sunday, August 26 from 1pm to raise money for the pair’s nominated charities.

Julia Wooldridge, one of the organisers of the event for both families, suddenly lost her mother Cathryn, 66, formerly of Paxfords in Laindon to a brain tumour last year.

Speaking for herself and her sister, Katie Gillam, she said: “Her passing was very sudden and unexpected.

“She loved life and was always around whenever we needed her.

“Not a day goes by when she isn’t in our thoughts.”

Half of the event will be raising money for Cathryn’s nominated charity, the Brain Tumour Charity.

The other will be going towards a Basildon Hospital, who cared for Kenny, from Grays when he sadly passed away after he was admitted suffering severe breathing difficulties.

A spokesman for his family said: “Kenny’s charity is The Marjory Warren Ward at Basildon Hospital whose outstanding care and support throughout was of great comfort to us.”

Julia added: “There’ll be lots to do for the kids, a penalty shootout competition with prizes, bouncy castle, face painting and lots more.

“Please come along and support these two great causes.

“Everyone playing in the match are family members of both my mum and Kenny.”

A barbecue, ice cream van and fully stocked bar will also be available throughout the day for spectators to enjoy.

Between the two causes, £836 has already been raised - the group’s target is £1,000.

Julia said the families wanted to split the money raised equally between the two charities as she paid thanks to everyone who has helped.
