Crowds flocked to join the fun at the Purfleet Family Fun-day on Wednesday August 8 with hundreds of people turning up at the community event.
As well as stalls, bouncy castles and a climbing wall for youngsters there was advice and information from Thurrock Council, community groups and Essex Police.
Rob Gledhill, Leader of Thurrock Council, who attended the fun-day, said: "It's great to see the community of Purfleet coming together at an event like this. The overriding message I have got from speaking to people living here is that they are not happy to be depicted as living in fear.
"The fact that the community has come out to attend this event show’s that life in Purfleet, and the Garrison Estate in particular, is very different to how it was portrayed in recent media articles.
"We are working with community groups and Essex Police to tackle issues but it’s great to see people from Purfleet coming out on a beautiful sunny day to enjoy everything on offer here."
The day was organised by Thurrock Council’s Resident Engagement Services, Purfleet Community Hub and the Thurrock Community Safety Partnership.
