A MAJOR road has partly reopened following a rush hour crash after cows escaped onto the road.
A number of the animals got onto the road and were struck.
It is understood a number of people were also injured in the crash.
The A12 is blocked between J22 for Witham north and J21 for Witham south after the crash.
Southbound queues are back past J24 for Kelvedon.
The northbound carriageway ha reopened – but queues remain back to J19 for Boreham.
There are also delays through Witham in both directions on B1389.
Traffic is using the B1022 to get around the A12.
There are very long delays in to Tiptree back to Layer Marney.
There is also a long queue on Warren Lane in Stanway trying to join the B1022 at Heckfordbridge.

Diversion through Witham town centre both directions but pls avoid if you can for now.
