15,000 at Orsett Show

MID-AIR motorcycle tricks, a catwalk of Britain's heaviest horses and Jack Russell races were just some of the attractions at this year's Orsett Show, which attracted an estimated 15,000 visitors.

The Boldog Lings Freestyle Team amazed the crowds with motorcyle jumps which reached heights of over 35ft.

Five drivers from the Mega Mini Stunt Show also carried out action-packed thrills, 360 degree spins, high speed crossovers, slalom drives and jumps.

Sheepdog trials and a show ring of the country's heaviest horses provided more traditional country show entertainment, along with horticultural and agricultural displays.

Other attractions included powered go-karts, the opportunity to learn about birds of prey, reptiles, and bread-making.

Ferret racing and a procession of majestic steam engines and classic cars added to the eclectic mix.

Ray Maywood, of High Road, Orsett, helped organised the charity event. He said: "This has been one of the best shows we've put on in the last five years.

"I think because it's been such a lousy summer, a record number of people have turned out.

"People seemed to love the animal-themed events; the Jack Russell racing certainly got the crowds going."

Angela Smith MP for Basildon and East Thurrock, who is the Orsett Show president, said: "It has been a fantastic day and it seems even busier this year. The atmosphere has been brilliant."
