Naked man terror for woman in woods

A WOMAN enjoying a morning walk with her dogs was horrified when a naked man appeared in front of her in Belfairs Woods.

Jenny Bird, 46, of Abotts Close, Leigh, was walking her four dogs in the woods when they started barking and acting strangely.

As she turned around to see what was bothering the dogs, Mrs Bird was confronted by a totally naked man about 30 metres away and walking towards her.

She said: "After a few seconds of horror and the initial shock I decided to shout loudly for help, hoping for some golfers or fellow dog walkers to hear me.

"The same man exposed himself to my friend just before Christmas last year and a groundsman told me I was the fourth person to complain this year.

"It's atrocious behaviour and I'm really worried now the kids are back at school."

As Mrs Bird shouted for help, the man walked behind a tree, put his clothes back on, picked up his bicycle and disappeared into the thicket.

She said: "I ran around telling everyone I could find but what was worrying was that most of the women I spoke to didn't have their mobile phone with them.

"I went back to the woods the next day with my phone hoping he would show up, because what he did made me so angry.

"I want to tell people not to run away, but to ring the police. It's the only way it's going to stop."

Insp David Colwell, of Leigh Police, said there had been extensive operations in Belfairs Woods in the past for similar types of crimes.

He said: "We take this offence very, very seriously. There are regular patrols, both on foot and on bicycle through the woods.

"Unfortunately, the woods is an extensive area to cover, so I would encourage people to call 999 and report it as soon as possible.

"The sooner we hear about these incidents, the better."

The man is described as in his thirties, and muscular.

No TINA, you wasn't the only one, but you were the first AND a woman, I thought you may be supportive for your own sex instead you treated the woman with disrespect calling her stupid rather than calling the man names...... surely there are women out there who will not have their lives ruled by some mens failings and not be like Tina who would obviously hide from this same problem. She says he might not just expose himself next time..... does that make the next woman who encounters this man STUPID for walking her dogs in the woods? most women know of this problem in Belfairs Woods but carry on walking their dogs as they are in the right and the pervert is in the wrong.

What is 'brave' about a woman going back to the same spot in the woods where she was previously confronted by a pervert? Especially as you have just said 'most women know of this problem in Belfair's Wood'.

I would call her thick and stupid. She could have been raped.

Anyone with half a brain cell would have left this for the police to deal with.

Does it really matter who is in the right or wrong here Frank?. The important thing was the woman's safety as far as I'm concerned.

i was speaking from personal experience FRANK and if all the women know about this perv then why on earth do they go into the woods, i always steer clear of them unless im with other people, take it from me woods are not safe places to go on your own, and that is why i said it was a stupid thing for her to do, and dont you dare imply that i was sticking up for that b@STARD instead of her.

You joke away Tina, think how it must make other women feel who have also encountered this situation.... and once again calling this woman even more names, thick, stupid, half a brain cell is unforgivable. I feel you are a discredit to women who attempt to keep their independence and way of life having been confronted by this sort of crime. You say 'its your way of coping with things', what if her way of dealing with things is too fight back and try to help others??
I hope you will not comment back as i will not reply, I dread to think what you will say next and fear that the woman may be reading it, its for her sake i will not reply again.

Being a 'MAN' Frank, would you want your wife, girlfriend or daughter to go wandering through the woods knowing there was a pervert lurking behind a tree somewhere maybe waiting to pounce on a vunerable woman?, and
do you honestly think she would have the strength to fight him off if he did attack her?

Take no notice Tina, there is such thing as freedom of speech. I had someone flash at me, I had a giggle about it with my friends. True it was shocking, but men who do this are total saddo's. I walk my dogs in a semi-rural area every day, I do avoid the woods as they are dangerous, but I still had a pair of gay Eastern Europeans think it would be a kick for them to walk past me, promptly pull their trousers down and start performing a sex act right in front of me. Once again shocking, but unfortunately in this day and age there are so many awful and shocking things going on that you sometimes just have to laugh about it because sadly, FRANK, the police just dont want to know. FACT. So leave Tina alone and perhaps see that she was just making light of an odd situation. If she took everything as seriously as you do she would put herself in an early grave. I AM A WOMAN and I still think that woman was barmy going back in the woods, especially Belfairs, a notorious perv hang out. Oh, and incidentally Tina didn't call the woman stupid, Bored did!!! But maybe you think Bored was a man and wont be quite so nasty to him.
