ECO-friendly pupils got their hands dirty planting trees and hedges in their school grounds.
Green-fingered youngsters at Crowstone Preparatory School in Crowstone Road, Westcliff, joined forces with conservation charity, the Woodland Trust, to do their bit for the environment.
The planting was part of the trust's Tree For All campaign, a five-year project which aims to get one million children planting 12 million trees.
Paul Bunton, trust spokesman, said: "Educating today's children about the benefit of looking after our environment will help protect the forests of tomorrow.
"By planting and looking after these hedges and copses, the children are contributing to a greener future for all of us."
The trees and shrubs are native broadleaved and it is hoped they will still be growing well into the next century.
