John Baron - Conservative
If re-elected as your MP, I will continue to: (1) Represent constituents, local charities and community groups as best I can. (2) Support local businesses in creating jobs by pressing Government for more tax cuts. Local unemployment has almost halved since 2010. (3) Support lower immigration to reduce pressure on our public services by campaigning to change EU rules on ‘Freedom of Movement’. (4) Support an in/out EU referendum by 2017, having led this campaign in Parliament. Only the Conservatives are willing and able to deliver this referendum. (5) Oppose illegal development to ensure everyone is treated fairly by the law. (6) Support pensioners whilst protecting their ‘Universal Benefits’. (7) Ensure public services serve residents well. We need Basildon Hospital to continue to improve, adequate school places, and crime to keep falling. (8) Be a strong, independent voice for Basildon and Billericay. For example, as an ex-soldier I voted against our military interventions and cuts to the Armed Forces.
Gavin Callaghan - Labour
Basildon is my hometown. I love living here. I’m proud to be from Essex and proud to be standing for parliament in a town where I know I can make a real difference.  As your Member of Parliament, working people will be my priority. I will balance the books and cut the deficit every year while securing the future of the NHS.  I will freeze energy bills until 2017 and give the regulator the power to cut bills. I will vote for 20,000 more nurses and 8,000 more GPs. I will vote to change the law to mean people who come here won’t be able to claim benefits for at least two years. As a 26-year-old I am dedicated to speaking up for my generation and will vote for tuition fees to be reduced to £6,000. I will fight for Basildon & Billericay and defend it in the House of Commons.
George Konstantinidis - UKIP
I believe in Britain and I believe the people of Basildon & Billericay do too. Our policies will enable the economy to grow, protect services and put money back in people’s pockets. I will support a referendum on our EU membership, leaving the EU and strengthening our relationship with the World Trade Organisation. This together with the abolition of overburdening EU regulations on small businesses will help our economy to grow. I will support the protection of public services including the NHS, Police, Defence, and Local Government, I support UKIP policy to ensure that work pays at every level by raising the tax threshold. I will support any emerging NPPF proposals that clarify UKIP policy to protect the greenbelt and build homes for local people.
