A MAN has died after he was hit by a car while crossing the A127.

Billy Burton, 35, of Cranfield Park Avenue, Basildon, was crossing the carriageway near the Dick Turpin pub at Wickford when the crash happened.

He had made it to the central reservation but collided with a blue Mini Cooper as he tried to cross the London-bound track.

Mr Burton died instantly.

Witnesses to the crash, which happened at 11pm last night, can call the Laindon road policing unit on 01268 541312.
