START spreading the news... Bas Vegas's latest nightclub, New York New York, is well and truly open for business - and revellers may well want to be a part of it.
With its Saturday Night Fever style square dance floor, Seventies themed red and black decor and retro atmosphere, the dynamic disco is set to appeal to a new wave of fun-seeking clientele from across south Essex.
New York, New York is the first phase of a £5million leisure project to create a "superclub" on the site of the former Bonds, Jumpin' Jacks and Lava & Ignite nightspots at Basildon's Festival Leisure Park.
Bonds has been gutted beyond recognition to make way for New York New York while work to build Liquid and Envy on the former Lava and Ignite sites will be finished soon.
Jumpin' Jaks, is set to remain, though it will get a makeover and a new name - JJ's.
All the clubs will be joined, but only those entering through New York New York will have entry to all four venues.
Once complete the whole complex will cater for 3,471 customers, making it one of the biggest superclubs in the country.
New York New York, with its 680 capacity, swung open its doors to the public with a glitzy VIP bash yesterday when even hardcore clubbers were impressed by the decor.
The multi-coloured dance floor, modelled on the one pounded by white suited John Travolta in Saturday Nigh Fever is also sure to be crown puller - and it should be, having cost over £1,300 a tile.
The club, set to open seven nights a week, is operating a strictly over-25's policy.
Darren Guyon, general manager of the club complex said: "The thing with New York New York is it meets a real need for a nightclub to cater for older clientele here in Basildon.
"Over-25s don't want to be partying with 18-year-olds and here they won't have to."
Mr Guyon, 32, who has been managing pubs and clubs since he was a teenager, added: "The high spec interiors mixed with state of the art light and sound will ensure this multi-room venue will become the ultimate must-visit nightclub.
"I want to offer customers a value for money experience they won't be able to get anywhere else.
"Although £5million has been spent on the clubs the entry prices will be the same as they were before, ranging from £4 to £8."
"New York New York, which will open till 3am at weekends, also boasts smoking terraces, VIP areas and plenty of comfy seating scattered around the venue.
He said: "Our dress code is smart casual which means jeans are allowed but we want to discourage trainers."
Darren stressed while the second phase of the development was ongoing Jumpin Jaks is still open for business. Liquid, Envy and JJ's are set to open at the end of April.
