TWO teenagers have swum to safety from a sinking dinghy.

The Southend RNLI lifeboat was launched at 2pm yesterday (Thursday) off the Leigh shore.

They found the two men had swum safely to shore and recovered the boat.

The past participle of the verb 'to swim' is 'swum', not 'swam'.

Actually, as there is no standard English anymore because Americanisms have crept into our language (read Bill Bryson's mother tongue) the word Swam is actually a past tense now. It is in the Websters dictionary and also recognised in the Oxford dictionary. So, as a word it can be considered correct.

Anyway just glad they are safe...though perhaps if the teenagers had been school they may have been able to help us with the correct tense/word!
