A DEAF and blind woman completed a sponsored swim, raising more than £1,000 for her local deafblind club.
Catherine Field trained hard at Clements Hall Leisure Centre, in Hawkwell, to prepare for the 100-length challenge - which she completed in one hour 20 minutes.
Sue Campbell, who co-ordinates clubs for the deaf and blind across Essex, said: "She had a guide rope for her lane to find out where she was and floats at each end of the pool so she didn't crash.
"She turned herself round using the edge of the pool and swam back.
"It was fantastic to watch."
Mrs Campbell said it had been a great achievement as the 46-year-old had never swum this far before.
Mrs Field, of Hilary Crescent, Rayleigh, arranged the feat to raise money for the Braintree Deafblind club, which she attends regularly. The social club meets once a month and arranges activities and outings. To donate to the club call Mrs Campbell on 07932165719.
