BASILDON Council is to appeal the High Court ruling which quashed its planned evictions of illegal traveller site.

Council leader Malcolm Buckley said the earliest a Court of Appeal hearing could be expected was October.

The council will also take its eviction decisions again at a future development control committee.

Councillors will take into account traveller needs, following surveys of individuals living at Dale Farm, Crays Hill, and Hovefields, Wickford, homelessness issues, and the need for alternative sites, as recommended by Judge Mr Justice Andrew Collins.

Mr Buckley said: "Our legal advice is we can take a twin track approach. This means whichever outcome is successful first will be pursued while the other is dropped."

Basildon MP Angela Smith criticised the council for spending too much public money on costly legal battles.

reading the full report, the judge was angry at the council saying they would evict the travellers and never actually doing it!
He quoted other councils that decide an eviction is needed - and then actually do it!
Stop being soft Basildon Council... we pay your rates!!!!!

Can somebody please explain 'what needs'.

They have no housing needs as they have homes elsewhere. They have no education needs as they don't send their children to school. They have no health needs as this silly country gives them priority at hospitals. And they have no travelling needs as they don't appear to travel anywhere.

Their only needs, it appears, are to be able to break the Law and scrounge wherever they can.

Where's the organised protest then??

This should cheer up a few people in Crays Hill and Hovefields and about time too.

I wonder what strategy Angela Smith would prefer ?

Law is a system of rules that shape our society. Actions have consequences...first rule of life. And the second rule is this - you are the only one responsible for your own actions. If you willingly flout the law you should expect to pay the consequences. It is no more complex than that. Our society does not owe these people a living. If everybody behaved in this manner the country would be destitute and anarchic. Basildon Council - Make up your mind to act decidedly. No good is ever done in this world by hesitation.

Why move the travellers of this site? they have already built over the green belt land, so its not green belt land anymore in reality is there??

They are all settled where they are and just want to stay there.

What is the point in chucking them of there to just put them somewhere else in the District??

The Councils first place was to dump them in Pitsea, but why do Pitsea deserve them and Crays Hill Residents dont??

Don't bother...the micks will always get their own way in their adopted home country. Us UK citizens barely have any rights compared to our friendly foreigners.

When and where are the marches come on some one let us know there is a lot of support out here. At this moment we need to let all see that all this hesitation is winding people up. I think if we started rebelling about all issues a bit more here in Basildon it really would be a good thing.

I totally agree. It may be the people of Crays Hill affected now but it could happen anywhere in the Basildon District. Malcolm Buckley and his fellow councillors need to act, not just talk. How can they fine a chap £14,000 for erecting an extension without planning permission yet let Dale Farm spiral out of control? It's completely wrong.

So if I steal your car, the fact that I managed to actually break the law and take irt means that you forfit your rights, and that it is now mine.

What an idiot you are!
