A MEDIC who dealt with Caesarean births at Basildon and Southend hospitals had HIV.
Nearly 200 patients have been informed by letter they were in contact with the healthcare worker. They have been asked to take HIV tests to make sure they have not contracted the infection.
It is understood the unidentified staff member was in a surgical team which dealt with Caesarean section births at both hospitals. Basildon Hospital has sent out 126 warning letters, while Southend Hospital posted 66.
The staff member worked at Southend during the first half of 2007 and Basildon in the summer of 2006.
The hospitals only confirmed the alert after worried mums contacted the Echo.
Angelique Millington, 32, whose son Joshua is 15 months old, will have her HIV test tomorrow. She said: "I can't eat. I can't sleep. It's such a worry."
Dr Grahame Tosh, medical director at Southend Hospital, said: "We are very sorry that some of our patients could have been exposed to the risk of HIV infection while in our care."
The Echo can reveal the infected medic still works within the health service in what is described as a "risk free" role.

have you all had sex with this worker, did you exchange bodily fluids. If you had a C section you will know that all personnel are robed and wear gloves etc. It is highly unlikely any of you will have caught hiv/aids, from this worker. Typical Echo likes to cause panic and sensationalism. Stop panicking. I have had the letter and will have the test as a mere precaution, but i am not worried as i have researched all this and i KNOW i didnt have sex with anyone whilst having a C section.

<b> Aren't people who work in the health service and are involved in this work checked and regularly screened? I can't even get into my local golf club without certain checks being made so how can it happen where life and death is concerned.
was the medic called Baba Gana Maduekwe or Ojo Kingibeby or something like that by any chance? </b>

\"I bet this medic was born in a mud hut.\" \"I reckon you are right, Liz. I find the best way to stay healthy is to avoid contact with immigrants.\" ah, nothing like a bit of racism to spice up the conversation.

You nasty unfeeling creep, havent you heard of cot death. Thanks for reminding me that when i talk about my youngest son, i really should also mention my child that didnt live very long. I hope you are now happy that you have caused me further pain, especially as you dont know me. And havent even got the guts to use your real name.
