A WOMAN is calling for the return of dog licences after her pet labrador was mauled by two rottweillers.

Natasha Tomkins, 34, was taking her dog Harry for a stroll when the dogs launched an attack.

It happened in front of Natasha’s daughter, Alicia, ten, in Brackendale Avenue, Pitsea, where they live.

Harry needed £300 worth of vet treatment.

Natasha said: “At first I thought he was dead. The attack was so severe I thought he must have been killed.

“These dogs were looking to hurt something or somebody. It could easily have been my daughter. That’s really scary.”

However, Natasha was left stunned when she was told by Essex Police there was little they could do as the dogs had not attacked a human.

She said: “Nobody was interested – the police, council, the RSPCA, nobody – and all because another dog got hurt not a person.

“This is not on. If dogs are aggressive like this then their owners should keep them on a lead or muzzle them.

“I want to see the return of dog licences so officials can keep tabs on an aggressive dog and assess whether it could be a risk to the public.”

Dog licences were abolished in 1987.

True the police cannot do dog on dog but it is still an offence to have a dog out of control in a public place and the police can take action if they wish-it is a law going back years and I know it has been used recently.

What an awful thing to happen.
I'm surprised we don't have the usual posters telling us what lovely family pets these killer dogs are, and how it's the fault of the owners not the dogs.
