A NEIGHBOUR from hell has been jailed for a campaign of terror, which included bullying an 80-year-old woman.

Susan Cook, 53, must spend 28 days in prison before serving a four-year antisocial behaviour order.

Cook’s abuse towards her neighbours in Tilburg Road and Surig Avenue, on Canvey, began more than five years ago.

A resident, who lives near Cook, said: “This has been going on for such a long time. I can’t really emphasise enough how bad it has been. There’s shouting and the language is appalling.”

An operation involving police, Castle Point Council and neighbours was launched to catch Cook red-handed.

Tony Belford, councillor responsible for safer communities, said: “She would sit in her garden shouting and swearing at local elderly residents.

“Our antisocial behaviour officer attended a meeting with the neighbours and it was agreed we would work together to gather evidence.

“We were able to lend one of the council’s hidden cameras to an 80-year-old resident and get video evidence of the abuse.

“With the evidence at hand and by working closely with Essex Police, we were able to secure a 28-day prison sentence for harassment and a four-year asbo.

“This will provide reassurance to her neighbours.”

Cook pleaded not guilty to harassment, but Southend Magistrates’ Court found her guilty and she was sentenced at Basildon Crown Court.

Cook, of Tilburg Road, Canvey, was first given an asbo in 2003, and her latest one will run until July 21, 2012.

If breached, Cook could face further imprisonment.

Essex Police said they were unable to release a picture of Cook as they had not yet carried out a “risk assessment”.
