A DENTAL surgery could be replaced with a new surgery and six flats.
Southend Council is being asked to approve plans to demolish Hopkins and Abbot’s surgery, in London Road, Leigh, along with the house next door, to make way for the two-storey block.
The proposal also includes a car park and cycle store for patients and residents.
Bernard Gooding, the Leigh planning agent who is working on the project, said: “It’s not a commercial venture, but a professional venture, where a dentist is trying to provide better facilities for the public, in line with modern requirements.
“The medical profession is progressing very rapidly and the requirement for dental surgeries now is very expensive and to a very high standard. Old surgeries need to be brought up to date.”
Mr Gooding said the new building would be of similar in size to the existing one.
He added: “Hopefully. it’s not going to be controversial as far as the council is concerned.
“We hope the council is going to welcome it.”
