LIBRARIES in Southend are joining Neighbourhood Watch to offer free Message in a Bottle packs.
The scheme offers a small plastic container, which can be kept in an older person’s fridge to safely hold details of next of kin, medical conditions, medication and doctor.
The aim is to allow emergency services called to a home to find the information quickly Mick Holland, Southend Neighbourhood Watch administrator said: “The real attractiveness of the message in a bottle scheme is its simplicity.
“Evidence shows it has helped people to get quicker access to appropriate treatment in an emergency. It gives extra peace of mind to people living alone.”
Neighbourhood Watch says it has evidence the scheme has so far saved 12 lives in Essex.
