A MUM says a last-minute decision saved her little son from serious injury when a taxi smashed into their lounge.

Georgia Luxton, 23, and son, Taylor, four, are homeless as a result of the accident.

The cab ploughed into their two-bed roomed flat in Beccles Court, Station Avenue, Wickford, early on Wednesday morning.

Georgia said she’d planned to leave her son asleep on the sofa.

She added: “We both fell asleep on the sofa and I was going to get a blanket and leave him there, as I didn’t want to disturb him.

“For some reason, I decided to move him. It was the best decision I’ve ever made.”

Georgia and Taylor, their dog Busta and cat, Ali, were woken by the crash. She said: “There was just this huge bang and then people’s voices.

“My first thought was to find Taylor, who had come into my room at about 4am.

“He looked shocked and couldn’t move. I just started shouting.”

Georgia found the taxi driver sitting on her wall and was surprised to find she knew him.

She explained: “I use Brown’s Taxis all the time and I’ve had a lift with him before.”

The flat is now boarded up with the walls shored up to stop them collapsing.

Georgia said: “I’ve been allowed in to get some clothes, but that’s it.

“The surveyors from the council and the housing association have been in and say it is not fit to live in.

“I’ve got nothing left, everything I have worked for is ruined.”

Georgia, who works part-time as a care assistant and part-time at the Downham Arms pub in London Road, Wickford, is staying with relatives.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash and have taken away the silver Ford Galaxy taxi for tests.

The driver, believed to be in his forties, suffered only minor injuries.
