Council rejects need for fresh travellers eviction vote

BASILDON Council has scrapped a second vote over evicting hundreds of travellers from illegal sites.

Travellers from Dale Farm, Crays Hill, and Hovefields, Wickford, were told to prepare new information on personal circumstances for a second vote next Tuesday, but council chiefs have abandoned it.

Crays Hill travellers put together a report after High Court Judge Mr Justice Andrew Collins said in May the council needed to take a fresh vote.

However, council leader Malcolm Buckley said: “It was considered there was no new evidence, so the committee would have reached the same decision to evict.

“We are confident the Court of Appeal on December 4 will overturn the judge’s ruling, allowing us to evict.”

How many voters do you actually need? Just ervict them, and quickly! It would be interesting to see how quickly you would evict an individual if they did the same.
