A FORMER Southend schoolgirl will replace Carol Vorderman as the maths brainbox on TV quiz show Countdown.
Rachel Riley, 22, a former pupil of Southend High School for Girls, will join Sky Sports presenter Jeff Stelling as co presenter on the popular Channel 4 show.
Rachel, who graduated from Oriel College, Oxford, with a masters degree in mathematics, fought off stiff competition from more than 1,000 hopefuls.
She said: “This is the best graduate job in the world.
“There's only one cool maths job around and I was lucky enough to get it, so I’m absolutely thrilled.”
