Speed camera saboteurs could have destroyed our bungalow

The speed camera in Eastwood The speed camera in Eastwood

A COUPLE have hit out at yobs who burnt down a speed camera next to their bungalow.

Doris and Trevor Lewis, who are both retired, were shocked to discover on Monday night the speed camera in Rayleigh Road, Eastwood, was ablaze just metres from their home.

The suspects had placed a tyre around the device and doused it with petrol, before setting it alight just before 10pm.

Luckily, Mrs Lewis spotted the flames and called emergency services before the fire spread.

Why doesn't the photo show the proximity of her bungalow and the camera?

Bit over the top, but at lease Mrs Lewis has now had her 15 mintues of fame.

From memory, there are no houses anywhere near this camera. All the houses along there have gardens and driveways so it's not that close.

It might be because it's really super close...
But imagine poor Doris, walking around the house in the nip... boy racer going past on the road...FLASH!

Along with Dwayne the racer's car...Poor Doris has her backside photographed.

I don't get it, our resident speed campaigner tries his best.. but why do people always think of Techno when they see these erections?

These Gatso's are such an easy target for attacks like these, Nice of the council to give the vigilante's a challenge on the A127! I reckon a chainsaw will do the trick! I would pay good money to see that lol...

Hmm, incitement to criminal damage - you can get your wrist slapped for that :-)

As this 'story' is based totally on the apparent closeness of the camera to the bungalow, surely the photograph should show just how close (or not) the two are.

As it doesn't, we can only assume that they are not very close at all, making this yet another meaningless Echo story.

Well at least that's another speed camera out of action for a while, it can't be that easy throwing a car tyre on it and then setting it on fire the women in the bungalow should really appreciate the effort gone in to it.

It's about time you all realised that burning these catso cameras will not stop you getting a speeding fine. They are now Digital, and the details & pictures go strait back whoever issues the fines and the points on your licences. I found this out to my cost last year on the A41, comeing from Ross on Wye at 6am in the morning, the paper work was at the company offices in 5 days. So please do-not think you can get away with it by burning the camraras, as will allready be too LATE.

Trying to talk logical sense to someone who has none, is illogical. Lets celebrate the rise of the average speed cameras (literally) the oafs will have trouble burning those down.

To be honest I think it's gone way past these things being burnt to avoid a fine. It's more like a sport these days as more and more people realise they are purely there to collect revenue rather than save lives. If the govt / council / police wanted to save lives they would have more trafffic cops on the road.

Bet you felt like wrecking it though. How much were you over the limit?

Get the point but a dead camera can't take pictures.....or can it ???

all i'm gonna say on this matter is that can't da YOBS burn a speed camera that actually works???????? and that they should try burning out the new ones on the A127 then lets see how clever they really are.

In response to all those of you who are so sure that the bungalow is well away from the camera, the actual distance from the camera column to the front wall is 4.72m (less from the actual camera to the bow window) and, when the wind is blowing flames of that intensity around, that distance is nothing!!

If you want to stick cameras up then this is what will happen , when certain individuals get a fine and some points for doing 35mph .I bet no one can get a burning tyre round them yellow average cameras on the 127, mind you they are a bit high probably have to get jeff capes down Lol

I read a little while ago that speed cameras in Texas were found to be "susceptible to high-velocity rifle fire".
And WRT the discrimination machines (motorbikes are exempt), sorry - average speed cameras: It's only a matter of time before someone gets to them.

To veer into the sort of posts on 4chan:

Evidence or you are making it up!

The cynic in me says that if it was really that close then the picture would have the camera and the house

I would have thought that it was obvious, dlewis6771 is the owner of the bungalow, I pass this camera everyday, and yes it is that close to the bungalow. It was very silly to put the camera so close to the dwelling in the first place.
